February Monthly Dev Update

In February I published:

  • 7 YouTube Videos
  • 1 Itch.io Asset

For the month I received $7.00. I’ve done a lot of work with YouTube, Twitter, and my game this month, and even managed to squeak out a… game? Tool? I don’t know what it is. Let’s talk!

Itch.io

I sold thee assets on Itch (Seems to be the magic number lately)!

My views peaked on February 5th when I published a new project.

Sound Machine

Sound Machine is really simple; It plays ambient sounds. When I stream and when I work, I like there to be non-intrusive sounds playing. Wind, running water, rainfall, etc. Since GameMaker released a free-to-use asset pack, I thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to create something that I can play for myself when I work. Hopefully, you’ll find some use out of it, too.

It’s got a really simple interface. Just tap on the icons you want to listen to to turn them on/off, and adjust the slider for volume. It’s streamlined and easy; Just my style! It can be played in the browser or downloaded on PC. So how’s it doing?

Unimpressive. That’s okay, it was more for my own use, and I did nothing aside from a single tweet to let people know about it. I’m proud of it regardless.

Twitter

In December I set a goal to get 5 new followers on Twitter and ended up getting 450! I knew I probably couldn’t repeat that, but I still wanted to stretch myself with a goal of 20 followers. I managed to attract the attention of almost 60 new followers! Thank you!

I was particularly star-struck when two of my favorite devs and content creators, Neutronized and Goodgis happened to follow on the same day! It really made me feel like I was walking on clouds, and reassured me I’m doing something right. I focused on gameplay gifs and tweeting out my YouTube activities.

YouTube

Last month I set a goal for 4 new videos and 20 new subscribers. I ended up with 7 videos and 51 subscribers!

My videos didn’t have quite the impression as they did in January, but I’ve been putting a lot of thought into what I want the channel to become. I still have a goal of 1k subscribers and 4k watch hours, but more importantly, I want to grow a community.

I want to focus on fun, informative videos that don’t require too much production so I can release them on a regular basis. I’ve been trying to keep up with one a week, but it’s definitely been a challenge, and I’ve got no backlog!

March’s Strategy

I stretched myself in January and February, and it definitely paid off, so I’m going to do the same in March. Let’s keep it going!

This month’s goals:

  • 4 new YouTube videos (NOT shorts!)
  • 40 new YouTube subscribers
  • 40 new Twitter followers

I’m nervous about these goals, if I’m being honest with you. I just hope that the challenge is the motivation I need and I’d like to be able to say that I once again surprised myself. As always, there’ll be goals for the future, also!

Milestone Goals

  • Publish a game
  • 1,000 followers on YouTube
  • 4k hours of watch time on YouTube
  • 2,000 followers on Twitter
  • $50/month from assets

    Congrats 👏.
This is so motivational, I plan to launch my own game too and it’s nice to know people which have the same goal.
Your stats look really good, hope you will keep going like that. Good luck for the next steps!
